Respiratory Therapist

Location: Princeton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Seeking a Licensed Respiratory Therapist with at least 3 years of experience to work in a community hospital setting. The role involves working across a variety of inpatient units including adult, pediatric, and neonatal care areas.


Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of Respiratory Therapy experience
  • Experience with ventilators, ABG (arterial blood gases), BiPAP, infant vents/CPAP, resuscitation, and EKG
  • ER, ICU, and inpatient adult experience required
  • Pediatric experience preferred; training on pediatrics available
  • Ability to assist with intubation (independent intubation not required)

Certifications & Licenses

  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist required
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) via NBRC required; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred
  • ACLS, BLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), PALS, and STABLE certifications required

Work Environment & Duties

  • Treats adults primarily, with some pediatric and neonatal patients
  • Covers all inpatient areas, emergency department, inpatient and outpatient EKGs, and outpatient bronchoscopies in a procedural setting
  • May initiate CPAP on infants
  • Performs breathing treatments, ventilator management, ABG draws and analysis, and EKGs
  • Can place arterial lines
  • Typically manages 8-9 ventilators simultaneously in ICU
  • No critical care transport outside the facility required
  • Works with a team including a lead therapist or supervisor for support

Schedule & Staffing

  • Shifts: Day (06:45–19:15) and Night (18:45–07:15)
  • Set schedules made 4 weeks in advance
  • Every other weekend required; weekend-only shifts may be considered
  • Holidays worked only if scheduled (Christmas and New Year’s)
  • No call or standby call required
  • Floating only within the facility

Additional Information

  • Orientation includes general and classroom training, followed by approximately 3 days of shadowing with a preceptor
  • Skills assessment conducted onsite to determine appropriate assignments
  • Dress code: professional scrubs (any color), professional appearance, no long nails, men clean-shaven
  • Equipment used includes Puritan Bennett 840, Hamilton C1, Avea, Bipap v60, Vapotherm for high flow oxygen therapy

Patient Volume & Staffing

  • Department typically staffs 7 RTs during the day and 5 at night
  • Therapists may perform 40-70 treatments per day

Notes

  • Must disclose any licensing issues at time of submission
  • Must include a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with application
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
