Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Transplant Abdominal Inpatient
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Location: Milwaukee, WI (Level III Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Magnet Designated, Comprehensive Stroke Center)
- Unit: 26-bed inpatient transplant unit (Abdominal Transplant)
Patient Population
- Adult medical and telemetry patients
- Live and kidney transplant recipients
Patient Ratios
- RN Day Shift: 1:3-5
- RN Night Shift: 1:5-7
- CNA Day Shift: 1:5-7
- CNA Night Shift: 1:6-8
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) with current BLS certification (ACLS not required)
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience
- Prior travel experience: First-time travelers may be considered upon review
Skills and Experience
- Experience caring for surgical patients
- Patient assessment skills
- Tube feeding and NG tube insertion
- Blood product administration
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation (minimum twice per shift documentation)
- Experience with titratable drips (heparin, insulin, Cardizem) preferred; willingness to learn if no prior experience
- Strong critical thinking and efficient time management skills
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: 1 shift to learn unit flow
- Shift Times: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Schedule Cycle: 6-week increments
- Weekend Rotation: 24 hours of weekend shifts per 6 weeks
- No on-call required
- Holiday shifts vary
- Time off requests can be approved up to 7 days
Floating
- Floating within scope of practice required
- Priority floating for travelers
- May float to ED inpatient boarding (1:4 ratio)
Support & Resources
- Charge RN with reduced patient load
- AM and PM unit leadership Monday through Friday
- ICU-trained Resource RN available 24/7
- CNA, HUC, Phlebotomy, RT available 24/7
- Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage 24/7
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with tele techs
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitors: GE Monitors
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Any solid color allowed
- Free parking available
- Pain management documentation required before and after medication administration, with adherence to pain score protocols
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with a background in surgical and transplant patient care who are comfortable managing complex drips and cardiac monitoring in a high-acuity setting.
