Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical

Location: Dixon, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Seeking a Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract in a hospital located two hours west of Chicago. The unit has 23 beds on the 4th floor and 14 beds on the 3rd floor. Ideal nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, can go up to 1:7. Patient diagnoses commonly include NSTEMI, COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, and acute kidney injury.

Shift Details

• Shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend typically
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday typically
• Call/Standby: No on-call; low census situations are rare
• Floating: May float to ICU, ER, or Behavioral Health if experienced; otherwise, no floating outside Med-Surg
• Orientation: One shift of department-specific orientation provided

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active Illinois RN license required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• ACLS and PALS preferred due to possible pediatric patients

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience required
• Prior travel experience is not specified as required

Additional Information

• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor roles available
• Nurse aides (PCTs) ratio approximately 1:8
• Telemetry available; RNs sign off on strips, MTs read strips
• No requirement to titrate drips
• Scrub color is flexible; close-toed shoes and good hygiene required

Notes

• Drug-free workplace; negative drug screen required
• Local call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
