Registered Nurse - Ortho/MS/Tele
Location: Towson, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Start Date: May 4, 2026
Shift: Days, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), every other weekend required, holidays as scheduled
Patient Population: Adult/Geriatric; Adolescents (Tanner score > 4 with prearrangement)
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on an orthopedic, medical-surgical, and telemetry unit.
- Surgeries include complex total joints, cervical and lumbar spine fusions, foot and ankle, head and neck, colorectal, hepatobiliary, urology, and gynecological surgeries.
- Telemetry monitoring and EKG rhythm basics knowledge required.
- Equipment used includes IV, PCA, PCEA, capnography, wound vac.
- Communication tools include bedside shift report, whiteboards, secure text messaging.
- Floating within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed.
- Block scheduling not accommodated; special scheduling requests must be submitted at application.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of orthopedics experience within the last year
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Minimum 1 year healthcare provider experience (required for first-time travelers)
Additional Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines.
- Required immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (if applicable).
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel depending on facility) within 30 days prior to start.
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required for the 2025-26 season.
- Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year prior to start.
- Two supervisory references within 1 year.
- Employment history verification for 5-7 years.
- Background checks including criminal history, education verification, and state-specific exclusions.
- Facility-specific documents such as confidentiality agreement, badge photo, and IT confidentiality agreement must be completed prior to start.
Work Environment & Scheduling
- 3 twelve-hour day shifts per week.
- Every other weekend and holidays as scheduled.
- Floating within specialty and to lower acuity units required.
- No pre-scheduled on-call shifts.
Patient Care Focus
- Care for adult and geriatric patients primarily, with some adolescent patients by arrangement.
- Monitor telemetry and cardiac rhythms.
- Support post-operative care for a variety of complex surgeries.
