Description

Registered Nurse - Med Surg Oncology

Location: Fargo, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide nursing care for medically complex hematology/oncology patients, including administration of blood products, antibiotics, symptom and side effect management. Perform head-to-toe assessments, medication administration, and communication with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and families. May administer chemotherapy if trained.


Required Qualifications

  • License: Active North Dakota RN license or Compact RN license (or willingness to obtain)
  • Certifications: BLS (AHA) required
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years recent nursing experience in a large hospital setting (250+ beds)
    • Experience in a busy level 1 trauma center
    • Inpatient oncology experience preferred; hematology and bone marrow transplant experience is a plus
  • Travel Experience: Highly preferred but not explicitly required
  • Skills: EPIC experience required
  • Other: Willingness to float to all med surg units/locations within Fargo as needed

Work Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts, day/night rotating
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • No call required
  • Will not work alone

Unit Details

  • Unit beds: 16 inpatient oncology beds (6S) and 12 inpatient oncology beds focused on hematology/bone marrow transplant (7S) with additional beds being added
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio:
    • 1:3 for chemotherapy or bone marrow transplant patients
    • 1:4-5 for regular oncology patients (day)
    • 1:4-6 on nights
  • Orientation: 8 hours classroom training plus 24-36 hours unit training
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

  • Zebra phone

Additional Notes

  • Must badge in and out at the facility
  • Floating to other med-surg units within Fargo may be required
  • Candidates living within 60 miles of the facility are not eligible for this travel assignment
  • Prior employment with the facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
