Description

This is a RN Travel position. You must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered for this position.

Med/Surg RN - Full Time Position

Schedule Details

• Full Time Day/Night Rotation (36 hours) • 3x12.0 hour shifts • Every other weekend • Holiday rotation • 2 On Call shifts per 4 weeks

Short Description

• Med/Surg RN Full Time (36 hours) + 2 on call shifts in 4 weeks • Rotational D/N/W/Holidays

Required Certifications and Licensure

• NYS RN Licensure Required • BLS certification required • ACLS (AHA or RQI only) required • NIHSS certification required

Position Overview

• The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families • The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode • The RN develops specialized skill in the area of patient admitted for medical conditions • Provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions • Accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing • Expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment

Job Functions

• Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care • Assesses patient/family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness (being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do), and analyzing data or information obtained through direct observation/assessment, technology, or health team communication • Creates a developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified • In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors the patient's progress • The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition/reprioritization of needs • Promotes, advocates for and protects the health, safety and rights of the patient • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome • Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice • Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies • Motivates the patient/family by teaching them what is needed to continue care/healing at home • Assesses the patient/family learning styles and structures the sessions to maximize understanding • Seeks "teachable" moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information • Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process • Provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge • Documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education • Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery • Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial • Takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems • Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patient/family • Seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in the moment of interaction, listening, communicating, engaging, and anticipating the patient/family needs • Strives to understand what is most important to the patient/family, acknowledging that the patient and family are the central focus of all care and services • Embraces the importance of creating a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice • Demonstrates skill in application of interventions including medication administration

Additional Requirements

• Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated • Required tasks involve a potential contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues

Required Experience and Skills

• BLS, ACLS, NYS RN Licensure - Required - 1 Year • One (1) Year Experience serving in Med/Surg Environment as a Registered Nurse - Required - 1 Year
