Position Details
Unit: Emergency Department Observation Unit
Profession: Registered Nurse
Specialty: ER Holding
Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in nursing, with specific experience in ED and/or ER Holding required.
Patient Care Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency department observation unit with a patient ratio of 1:4.
Required Experience
- Emergency Department and/or ER Holding experience required
- Experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry, Telemetry, PCU/Stepdown acceptable
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching Hospital or Community Hospital experience preferred
- Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) experience preferred
- Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
- Travel experience not required
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Essential Skills
- Telemetry & Dysrhythmia Management
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy
- Blood Product Administration
- Tracheostomy Management
- Administration and titration of Cardiac and Vasoactive drips
- Non-Invasive Airway Management (CPAP/BIPAP, Oxygen)
- Wound Care/Wound Vacuum Therapy
Work Environment
The Emergency Department Observation Unit has a daily census of 32 patients, with a total of 32 beds available. The unit provides support from an interdisciplinary team including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Radiology, Social Services, and Rapid Response Teams.
Orientation and Training
Hours of Orientation: 36 hours provided for onboarding and training.
Patient Demographics
The unit serves a diverse patient population, including adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics.
Special Procedures/Unit Details
Experience in ED and/or ED Holding/Observation is required for this position. There will be no requested time off from February 15, 2026, through February 28, 2026.
