Registered Nurse - Stepdown Neuro
Location

Job Details
This position requires a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Stepdown Neuro unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in neuroscience nursing and a passion for patient care.
Shift
Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Stepdown Neuro or PCU nursing required.
- Specific Neuro experience is required, with a strong understanding of NIHSS protocols.
- Preferred prior charge experience.
Patient Care Requirements
- Experience with a patient ratio of 1:4.
- Ability to float to different units as needed.
- Expected daily census of 29 patients in a 29-bed unit.
- Patient demographic: Adults and Geriatrics.
Clinical Skills
- IV therapy and phlebotomy, with experience managing ports and arterial lines preferred.
- Knowledge of the following neuro-specific conditions and procedures:
- Aneurysms and repairs
- Craniotomy
- CVA (Cerebrovascular Accidents)
- Intracranial bleeds
- Lumbar drains
- Pre/Post neurosurgery care
- Seizure disorders
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Experience in respiratory management, including CPAP/BIPAP.
- IV insulin protocols and management of cardiac drips, including titration.
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS Certification (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Charting System
Experience with Epic charting system is required.
Additional Information
- 24 hours of orientation will be provided.
- Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule period.
- Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy.
- Participation in isolation precautions and telemetry monitoring is expected.
- EVD monitoring experience is required (hard stop).
