Unit Details
We are seeking a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery to join our highly dynamic and fast-paced team. This position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in high-risk, high-acuity environments.
Position Overview
The selected candidate will work in a high-volume Labor and Delivery unit, which includes:
- Daily census of 15 patients, with an average of 500-600 deliveries per month.
- 31 patient rooms with an equal number of beds.
- 4 operating rooms dedicated to various procedures.
Shifts
This position typically involves day shifts, working 3x12-hour rotations from 07:00 to 19:30. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend.
Key Responsibilities
- Function as the Baby Nurse, providing continuous care for newborns during delivery and until transfer to postpartum.
- Circulate for Cesarean sections and assist with high-risk deliveries.
- Manage medication and administration, including but not limited to anticoagulants, antihypertensives, insulin drips, and magnesium sulfate therapy.
- Provide support in neonatal care during delivery, including assessment, thermoregulation, and managing APGAR scores.
- Assist in postpartum care, including addressing complications such as bladder distension and postpartum hemorrhage.
- Utilize electronic fetal monitoring systems effectively.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a high acuity and fast-paced environment is required.
- Must possess relevant certifications, including BLS and NRP; ACLS and AWHONN certifications are preferred.
- Competence in circulating and providing newborn care is a mandatory requirement.
- Ability to float to postpartum and antepartum units as needed.
Work Environment
The unit provides interdisciplinary support and encompasses high-risk antepartum and postpartum care for a diverse patient population, including midwifery clients and those engaged in adult recovery services.
Patient Demographics
Candidate experience with a variety of patient age groups is essential, including neonates, adolescents, infants, and adults. Experience with community care clinics is a plus.
Additional Information
Pre-approved time off will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Orientation will consist of 36 hours prior to starting in the unit. Scheduling is conducted every six weeks to meet the needs of the unit.
