Position Information

This position is in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and is designed for Registered Nurses with experience in critical care. The role involves providing specialized nursing care to patients with cardiovascular and thoracic conditions.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is preferred.
• Certifications:
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - Required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - Preferred
• Patient Ratio Experience: Familiarity with a patient ratio of 1:2.
• Charting System: Experience with Epic is required.
• Float Requirement: Ability to float to different units as needed within the organization.

Work Schedule

• Shifts Available:
  • Day Shift: 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)
  • Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
• Weekend Coverage: Required every other weekend, with a minimum of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule block.
• Orientation: 36 hours of orientation will be provided.

Patient Care Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive care for patients including but not limited to:

• Monitoring and managing patients on ECMO, IABP, LVAD, and other advanced cardiac support devices.
• Administering medications including cardiac and vasoactive drips.
• Performing arterial line management, central line care, and PICC line management.
• Conducting ventilator management and care of ventilated patients.
• Assisting with various procedures including chest tube management and tracheostomy care.
• Performing respiratory assessments, interpreting arterial blood gases (ABGs), and managing respiratory failure.

Working Environment

The CVICU operates with an interdisciplinary support team including respiratory services, physical therapy, social services, and rapid response teams. This unit typically handles a daily census of approximately 28 patients across 30 beds.
