Job Summary

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammography examinations in accordance with ACR standards. This position supports breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, breast localization, and other radiologic guided procedures performed within the Breast Center.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations for adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients in a timely and professional manner.
• Perform mammographic imaging for breast needle localization and stereotactic procedures, including setup and cleanup.
• Assist in procedures utilizing ultrasound guidance.
• Provide immobilization devices and select appropriate technical factors based on individual patient needs.
• Identify patient films with the correct name, x-ray number, and ensure proper marking of film sides, including initials on all films.
• Develop exposed x-ray film using appropriate processing methods.
• Complete patient requisitions with necessary details including technologist’s initials, date, number, and size of films.
• Assist with quality control procedures, documenting tests such as phantom image, darkroom fog test, and processor quality control.
• Support Breast Self-Examination (BSE) instructions and provide other patient education, including pre- and post-procedure instructions.
• Prepare cases for imaging, including chart and films compilation.
• Help compile statistics regarding patient follow-ups, tracking of breast localizations, and ultrasound examinations.
• Document procedures related to quality control and assurance for mammography in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State, and FDA guidelines.
• Maintain comprehensive patient documentation in the Breast Center chart.
• Assess the needs of the served patient population, delivering care tailored to specific requirements (e.g., age, culture, language, sensory impairments).
• Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at an appropriate level of understanding.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Adhere to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Licensed Mammography Technologist.

Required Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Must have ARRT certification.
• Mammography certification must be obtained within the first three months of employment.
• Must have an active Diagnostic Radiography License.

Schedule

Work hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a schedule of 5 days a week consisting of 8-hour shifts. Shifts will include every other weekend, with no holiday work and no on-call responsibilities. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform both screening and diagnostic mammograms.
