Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care and support to patients and their families within the full scope of nursing practice. This role involves engaging in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and services aimed at enhancing patient care for individuals, families, and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care while assessing and addressing their physical, psychological, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs.
• Participate in the creation and ongoing management of individualized patient care plans.
• Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
• Conduct data collection and patient observations to inform care planning and evaluation.

Charge Nurse Responsibilities

The charge nurse in the Emergency Department (ED) plays a crucial role in coordinating patient movement and staff assignments, ensuring efficient operations throughout the department. Responsibilities include:

• Receiving pre-arrival reports from Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and other community partners.
• Collaborating with the triage nurse to manage the needs of walk-in patients.
• Working closely with the House Supervisor to address patient throughput and bed assignments for admissions.
• Maintaining effective communication and collaboration with the department ward clerk, provider staff, ED technicians, and crisis evaluators.

Department Overview

The Emergency Department features:

• 21 monitored beds, 5 psychiatric safe treatment rooms, and 3 hall beds, with additional hall beds utilized as needed.
• A nurse-to-patient ratio of 4-5:1, adjusted according to patient acuity levels.
• Dedicated case managers and social workers available during business hours, 7 days a week.
• Crisis evaluators trained for mental health assessments.
• ED technicians skilled in phlebotomy, EKGs, and patient safety observation.
• A team of 3 MDs and 2 PAs providing care around the clock.
• Chest pain accreditation and designation as a primary stroke center.
