Job Description

This position involves working in a cardiac care environment with a focus on providing high-quality patient care in a variety of cardiac conditions. Candidates should be prepared for potential call-offs or additional requests for time off, which may lead to cancellations or denial of requests.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience on the cardiac floor required
• Traveler experience is required unless the candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Certifications: BLS & ACLS, NIHSS

Preferred Skills and Additional Experience

• Experience with arterial line management
• Wound care and wound vac knowledge
• Charge experience is beneficial

• Atrial Fibrillation
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
• Aortic stenosis/regurgitation
• Mitral Regurgitation/Stenosis
• Endocarditis
• Cardiomyopathy
• Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) and Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)
• Vasculitis
• Carotid stenosis
• Venous stasis

Special Procedures and Unit Details

In this role, you will encounter various surgical procedures, including:

• Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
• Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR)
• Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR)
• Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
• Mitral Clip procedures
• Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (Watchman procedure)
• Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS)
• Carotid endarterectomy
• FEM-POP bypass surgeries
• Amputations and other vascular surgeries

Equipment Utilized

• Arterial lines (not required)
• Doppler
• Bladder scanner
• Electrocardiogram (EKG) machines
• Femoral sheaths
• TR band
• Fem-stop
• Chest tubes
• Epicardial pacing wires

Unit Systems

Familiarity with the following systems is beneficial:

• Pyxis
• EPIC
• SBAR communication

Work Schedule and Expectations

Ratios vary per acuity with 1:4 for surgical step-down and 1:5-6 for lower acuity patients. Weekend requirements include four shifts every four weeks, with some flexibility available.

All contracted staff may be assigned to a Storm Team and may be called to report during catastrophic events or mass casualties.

Orientation

A 24-hour orientation will be provided for new staff members.
