Position: Respiratory Therapist - PICU
Location: City, State
Overview
We are seeking a qualified Respiratory Therapist to join our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) team. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills and have experience in pediatric respiratory care, particularly in critical settings. This position requires night shifts of three 12-hour shifts per week (18:45 - 07:15).
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Respiratory Therapy with PICU experience preferred.
- Certifications: BLS, NRP, RRT, and state licensure required.
- Travel Experience: Must have prior travel experience; first-time travelers may be considered if they demonstrate a high skill level.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer respiratory therapy treatments in a fast-paced pediatric critical care environment.
- Utilize advanced medication delivery systems, including aerosol setups and various inhalers.
- Manage ventilator settings and adjustments, including BiPAP, CPAP, and high-frequency oscillatory ventilation.
- Perform airway management and suctioning, including intubation and extubation.
- Conduct capillary and arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation.
- Participate in neonatal transports and high-risk deliveries as needed.
- Provide care for patients with diverse conditions such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), pneumonia, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Working Environment
- PICU with a 10-bed capacity and a 70+ bed NICU.
- A collaborative team in a dynamic pediatric setting.
- Opportunity to float between different pediatric units and the emergency department.
Shift Requirements
- Night shifts: 3x12 hour shifts per week (18:45 - 07:15).
- Every third weekend coverage is required.
- No block scheduling available.
Special Procedures and Equipment
The candidate must be competent in using the following equipment:
- Servo-I, Servo-N ventilators
- Alaris IV pumps for continuous administration of Albuterol
- Airvo heated high-flow nasal cannula
- BCPAP and various nebulizer systems
- Other specialized tools for pediatric respiratory care
Orientation and Apparel
- 36 hours of unit orientation provided.
- Black scrubs are required; not provided by the facility.
