Job Summary

The Radiologic Technologist I is responsible for producing diagnostic radiographic examinations with a level of technical expertise that does not require constant supervision. This position involves performing essential job functions as outlined below.

Essential Job Functions

• Produces diagnostic radiographic examinations by effectively positioning patients, utilizing immobilization devices, and selecting appropriate technical factors tailored to individual patient needs.
• Utilizes radiation beam restriction techniques through cone and collimation devices to minimize radiation exposure to unaffected areas of the patient.
• Performs portable x-ray examinations in various settings including patient rooms, operating rooms, and emergency rooms.
• Identifies and labels patient films accurately with the patient's name and x-ray number, ensuring the correct side of the patient is marked on the films.
• Handles the development of exposed x-ray films using available processing methods.
• Completes patient requisitions, including technologist initials, date, number, and size of the film.
• Maintains a well-organized x-ray room as per the directives from the department head.
• Prepares radiopaque contrast media and assists the physician in administering these mixtures to patients.
• Performs administrative tasks related to scheduling appointments, providing patient instructions, film filing, maintaining records, reception of patients, and other required duties.
• Provides assistance to all patients, taking into account individual needs and abilities when moving or getting on and off the x-ray tables.
• Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
• Identifies the needs of the patient population served and adapts care to be specific to those needs, including considerations for age, culture, language, and sensory impairments. This involves clear communication with patients, parents, and caregivers at an appropriate developmental or literacy level.

Education

Required Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
• Completion of clinical and A.R.R.T. requirements.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Must possess a New Jersey State License.
• Must meet requirements for the National Registry and successfully pass the examination.

Schedule Notes

Shifts from 10:30 AM to 11:00 PM. Required to work every third weekend, as needed on holidays, and be available for on-call shifts. Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care facility is necessary. Must be capable of working independently in emergency room settings and have operating room experience, with additional experience handling portable imaging for pediatric patients.
