Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing patient health and abilities through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. The RN plays a crucial role in preventing illness and injury, alleviating suffering, and advocating for individuals and families. The nurse is accountable for adhering to professional standards of practice in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines, ensuring quality patient-centered care in a supportive environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients, serving as either a primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and their families on health promotion and disease management using appropriate resources.
• Administer medications safely in line with hospital policy, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of pharmacology.
• Share responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing, time management, and supply management.
• Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Actively participate in the Nursing Shared Governance Model, contributing to the Unit Council, improvement initiatives, and peer review processes.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and complete all mandatory education requirements.
• Integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice to enhance patient care.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and nursing students.
• Assume responsibilities related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role as assigned.
• Participate in the Clinical Ladder Program as knowledge and expertise develop.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Required Skills & Experience

• Six (6) months to three (3) years of RN experience.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Judgment and critical thinking abilities.
• Organizational understanding and time management skills.
• Proficient problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to quality and reliability in patient care.
• Knowledge in safety and risk management practices.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education

• Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current New York State Registered Nurse License.
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Unit-specific requirements as noted in the Compliance Matrix.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

• CCRN.
• Relevant skills certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.

Languages

• English: Read, Write, Speak.

Schedule Notes

This position involves working the night shift, with 12-hour shifts every third weekend. Candidates with experience in labor and delivery, OR experience (circulating), and high-risk OB are preferred. Other required certifications include NRP and ACLS.
