Position: Respiratory Therapist - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Location: City, State

Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (18:30 - 07:00)

Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our dynamic team in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This position requires a dedicated professional with experience in trauma care and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide respiratory therapy for patients in critical condition.
  • Administer airway management procedures including intubation assist and extubation.
  • Perform suctioning procedures for both oral and nasal airways.
  • Oversee nebulizer treatments and assist with oxygen therapy.
  • Conduct sputum specimen collection and tracheostomy care/management.
  • Utilize ventilators and manage BiPAP and CPAP settings.
  • Monitor patient responses and troubleshoot ventilator alarms.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care.

Qualifications

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • Preferred certifications: BLS, NRP, and PALS.
  • Experience in Trauma Level II care is required; Trauma Level I experience is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a pediatric critical care setting is required.
  • Previous neonatal and pediatric experience is highly desirable.

Work Environment

This role is positioned in a Children's Hospital, designated as a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center with a total of 181 staff beds. The environment is fast-paced and supports various age groups, including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.

Scheduling and Coverage

  • Weekend coverage is generally required every other weekend.
  • Block schedules are utilized to enhance work-life balance.
  • Orientation for this position will consist of 24 hours.

Special Equipment

  • Ventilators: Draeger V800, VN800, and LTV 1200.
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula: Optiflow Jr, Airvo 2.
