Job Opportunity

Position: Ultrasound Technologist

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound, utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct procedures following departmental protocols, ensuring exams are completed within the allotted time.
  • Carry out daily clerical responsibilities, including using the EPIC system, Tele Tracking, and patient scheduling.
  • Perform portable ultrasound examinations as needed.
  • Execute complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound to identify anatomical abnormalities, such as masses, abscesses, and stones, adhering to prescribed sonographic procedures.
  • Assist physicians with biopsy procedures and deep abdominal studies, as well as color-flow ultrasound when required.
  • Prepare medical supplies, instruments, and equipment for procedures.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, explaining processes, measuring, and positioning them for optimal anatomical views.
  • Evaluate and ensure the technical quality of images, processing images of pathogenic conditions according to standard procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of ultrasound examinations, archiving and de-archiving data as necessary.
  • Calibrate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on ultrasound equipment for optimal functionality.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, supplies, and equipment, replenishing as required.
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction to students, employees, and medical residents.
  • Lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and remain standing for a minimum of 6 hours daily.
  • Greet patients upon arrival for their exams using A.I.D.E.T. standards.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends as necessary.
  • Comply with policies on Attendance, Punctuality, and Standards of Behavior.
  • Identify and address the specific needs of the patient population served, tailoring care according to age, culture, language, and other factors.
  • Follow the standards outlined in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Certification in CPR.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ultrasound equipment, including operation and control functions.
  • Understanding of computer systems and procedures for equipment service.
  • Familiarity with cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of safety and infection control policies, as well as emergency protocol implementation.
  • Maintain Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • One year of clinical experience in ultrasound.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound School.
  • Two years of training in Allied Health or a related field.

Certifications & Licensure:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).

Schedule Notes:

  • Days and flexible Monday to Friday. No weekends or holidays.
  • No on-call responsibilities. Position within a Breast Center requiring ultrasound expertise.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Breast Ultrasound Techniques, including the execution of routine and complex breast ultrasound examinations using various transducer types.
  • Skilled in image acquisition and optimization, ensuring high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Deep understanding of breast anatomy and pathology for accurate image interpretation and identification of findings.
  • Competence in operating and maintaining ultrasound equipment and troubleshooting minor technical issues.
  • Familiar with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) for efficient workflow.
  • Experience assisting with ultrasound-guided breast biopsies and maintaining sterile technique during procedures.
  • Participate in quality control and assurance programs to uphold image quality and equipment performance.
