Position: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Shift Details
- Shift Type: Night 3x12-Hour
- Scheduled Hours: 18:45 - 07:15
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse with a specialization in Medical Surgical to provide high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic healthcare team that serves a diverse adult and geriatric patient population.
Required Skills and Certifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience
- Experience with the Epic charting system
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Ability to manage insulin and heparin drips
Preferred Skills and Certifications
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Experience in a charge nurse role
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage patient care in a medical surgical setting
- Perform charting and documentation using the Epic system
- Utilize cardiac monitoring and emergency response protocols
- Perform IV therapy and phlebotomy
- Conduct evaluation and management of dysrhythmias
- Administer medications, including heparin and high-flow oxygen
- Adhere to isolation precautions and utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
Patient Care Environment
The unit operates with a daily census of approximately 43 patients in a general medical surgical capacity, providing care for adults and geriatrics. Special procedures include insulin drips, heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, and high-flow oxygen therapy. Limited short-term BiPap with respiratory support is also available.
Team and Support Services
The unit benefits from an interdisciplinary support system, including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
Work Requirements
- Weekend coverage required every other weekend
- Must be available to work holidays
- Call requirements apply if scheduled for call shift
- Potential to care for COVID patients
- Participation in inclement weather teams may be required
Orientation and Training
New hires will undergo a 24-hour orientation to familiarize themselves with unit protocols and expectations. EKG testing must be passed prior to starting in this specialty.
Scrubs Policy
Scrubs will not be provided. Navy blue scrubs are required.
