Unit Description

We are seeking Registered Nurses for a dynamic Hematology and Oncology unit. This unit focuses on the inpatient care of patients with various hematological and oncological conditions, providing critical nursing care in a fast-paced environment.

Shift Details

• Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
• Flexible scheduling without block schedules
• Variable weekend shifts based on unit needs
• Self-scheduling requests to accommodate preferred shifts

Experience Requirements

Candidates must possess the following:

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience
• Currently hold certification in Hematology/Oncology
• At least 1 year of recent experience in hematology/oncology within the past 3 years

Certifications Required

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Certification

Clinical Skills and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Administering chemotherapy and blood transfusions
• Managing IV therapy and blood product administration
• Providing care for patients with hematological disorders, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
• Monitoring and interpreting telemetry data
• Recognizing and communicating abnormal lab values
• Managing patient ports and central lines
• Caring for patients undergoing oncologic emergencies

Unit Environment

The unit features:

• Daily Census: 31 patients
• A total of 36 patient rooms and beds
• Interdisciplinary support from various specialties

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation program consisting of:

• First week: Monday to Friday daytime orientation
• Second week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a designated preceptor

Patient Demographics

The patient population includes:

• Adults
• Geriatrics

Special Equipment Used

• B450 monitors (GE telemetry system)
• Bladder scanners
• Alaris pumps
• Stryker beds
