Position: Neuro ICU Travel Nurse

Location:

City, State

Shift Details:

• Day Shift: 3x12 hours (07:00 AM - 07:30 PM)
• Night Shift: 3x12 hours (07:30 PM - 07:30 AM)
• Rotation every 4 weeks
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend

Patient Ratios:

• Days: 1:2
• Nights: 1:2
• Weekends: 1:2

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of Neuro ICU experience is required
• Preferred experience in a teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center
• Travel experience is required; first-time travelers must be screened

Certifications Required:

• ACLS (American Heart Association)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Core Skills:

• IV therapy and management skills
• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring
• Ventilator management
• Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring
• Emergency medication administration

Work Environment:

The position is located in a Neuro Intensive Care Unit, focused on critically ill patients with neurological conditions. The unit handles a variety of diagnoses, including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, seizures, neuromuscular diseases, and post-operative neurosurgical cases.

Interdisciplinary Support:

The nurse will collaborate with a range of healthcare professionals, including physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy, to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Patient Population:

Adults with conditions such as:

• Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
• Subarachnoid hemorrhages
• Seizures
• Neuromuscular diseases like myasthenia gravis and Guillain-Barré syndrome
• Meningitis
• Post-operative neurosurgery patients

Special Procedures:

The nurse may assist with bedside procedures, including:

• Tracheostomy placement
• Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)
• Central Line and arterial line placement
• External Ventricular Drain (EVD) placement
