Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for a role within the 5th West Intermediate Care Unit. The ideal candidate will possess strong critical care skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a variety of patient demographics.

Key Details

• Unit: 5th West Intermediate Care Unit - Electronic
• Shift: Night shift; 3x12-hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
• Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 4 patients during days and nights
• Daily Census: 19 patients
• Number of Beds: 20
• Patient Age Groups: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics

Essential Requirements

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Certifications:
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• Preferred Skills:
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy
  • Arterial Line Management
  • Chest Tube Management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
  • BIPAP/CPAP Management
  • Tracheostomy Care/Management

Unit and Patient Care Details

This unit functions similarly to an ICU and manages a diverse range of patients including those in respiratory distress, with unstable hemodynamics, post-operative complications, and other critical care situations. The unit will also accommodate patients requiring monitoring and treatment with various vasoactive drips.

• Special Procedures:
  • Only one pressor drip per patient; additional drips may necessitate transfer to ICU.
  • Insulin, Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo drips can be administered on unit.
• Special Equipment:
  • Bedside telemetry monitors
  • A-lines
  • BIPAPs
  • Chest tubes
  • Tracheostomy care equipment

Additional Information

This role will require floating to a sister unit as needed. Orientation will consist of 24 hours of training, and adherence to unit policies, including isolation precautions, is mandatory. All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to the start of their shift. Weekend coverage will be required every other weekend.
