Job Opportunity

Position: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

Join a dynamic and fast-paced Labor and Delivery unit in a high-acuity setting. This role requires a dedicated Registered Nurse with significant experience in a similar environment, particularly one managing high volumes of patients.

Travel Experience:

No travel experience is required, but candidates must have experience in large, high-volume healthcare settings. The unit presents a challenging and rapidly changing environment.

Shift Details:

  • Type: Night Shift
  • Schedule: 3x12-Hour Shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Weekend Coverage: Every Third Weekend

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Labor and Delivery setting is required.
  • Experience with over 300 births per month is mandatory.
  • Must be comfortable with high patient acuity and double labor assignments, which occur daily on the unit.

Patient Care Responsibilities:

  • Provide care for obstetrical patients from 16 weeks and beyond, including intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care.
  • Conduct routine outpatient procedures such as antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration.
  • Manage scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and perform rescue cervical cerclage.
  • Deliver immediate newborn care and handle complex situations involving cardiac monitoring and emergency care.

Required Skills and Certifications:

  • Active BLS and NRP certifications.
  • Preferred certifications include AWHONN Advanced and AWHONN Intermediate.
  • Experience circulating for C-sections and performing sterile vaginal exams is highly preferred.
  • Skills in pain assessment and management, telemetry interpretation, and IV therapy are essential.

Unit Environment:

This unit operates at a high intensity, averaging 20 births every 24 hours with a daily census of approximately 20 patients. There are 16 rooms available, and the team supports an interdisciplinary approach, collaborating with physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and more.

  • Orientation hours: 24
  • Float Requirement: May float within the women's unit as needed.
  • Pre-approved time off: 1 request permitted.
