Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Tech I will assist physicians with a variety of procedures, including but not limited to Cardiac Catheterization, Angioplasty, Atherectomy, Intra-vascular Ultrasound, Pulmonary Angiograms, and the insertion of Intra-aortic balloon pumps and stents. The candidate will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to assist in the performance of emerging technologies and procedures as they develop through ongoing research and innovation.

Essential Duties

• Prepare sterile trays and organize specific equipment for each procedure.
• Prepare patients prior to procedures by attaching EKG leads, performing a betadine scrub following protocol, and draping the patient appropriately.
• Assist cardiac catheterization nurses in preparing patients for monitoring.
• Calibrate and test transducers to ensure accurate pressure readings.
• Support physicians during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Load and operate power injectors.
• Utilize and uphold required standards for digital cine technologies, including protocols for the storage and retrieval of patient images and hemodynamic records.
• Ensure proper downloading of all CD acquisitions to the hospital mainframe for easy access through the intranet.
• Assist nursing staff and physicians in providing support necessary to restore and maintain patient well-being during emergency situations.
• Assist in the removal of procedural sheaths from patients after their transfer to the nursing care unit or recovery room.
• Assist in the insertion of vascular closure devices to ensure proper inter-vascular stability.
• Help maintain inventory control by notifying the responsible individual of low supply levels.
• Assist in the maintenance, calibration, and routine evaluation of all diagnostic and technical equipment.
• Be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs., push and pull up to 100 lbs., and stand for at least 4 hours daily.
• Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care that is specific to those needs, including age, culture, and language considerations.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their caregivers at appropriate levels based on developmental, educational, and literacy considerations.
• Adhere to the standards defined in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory or invasive procedure area in an acute care hospital.
• 6-12 months of training in a CVT accredited program or 2 years of experience in another cardiac vascular laboratory.
• Familiarity with computers, hemodynamic monitoring, and sterile operative techniques.

Schedule Notes

Shift: 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM, four days a week. No weekends. Proficient experience in Cardiac Catheterization required. CCL scrub experience is mandatory, while peripheral/neuro experience is a plus but not required.
