Position: Registered Nurse

Specialty: Med/Surg Oncology

Shift Details:

Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)

Block Schedules: No

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
• At least 1 year of current specialty experience is required for clinical pass
• Oncology experience preferred but not required

Charting System:

Epic is required for this position.

Certifications:

• BLS Certification is required
• Preferred certifications include: Telemetry Oncology

Skills Required:

• Interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Management of dysrhythmias
• IV therapy and Phlebotomy skills including starting and maintaining IVs
• Arterial line management
• Blood product administration
• Central line care and management
• PICC line management
• Assisting with chest tube insertion and removal
• High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Work Settings:

• Telemetry Oncology
• Medical Surgical/Telemetry
• Oncology

Patient Care Focus:

• Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
• Management of soft tissue malignancies
• Symptom management secondary to disease treatment or progression
• Management of comorbidities

Special Procedures/Unit Details:

The unit cares for patients with various diagnoses, including:

• Breast Cancer
• Lung Cancer
• Prostate Cancer
• Pancreatic Cancer
• Colon Cancer
• Esophageal Cancer
• Sickle Cell Crises

Special Equipment:

• B450 monitors GE telemetry system
• Bladder Scanner
• Alaris pumps
• Stryker beds

Additional Information:

• Patient population primarily includes adults and geriatric patients
• Daily census is approximately 36 patients with 36 beds available
• Staff will float to other MedSurg Oncology units as necessary
• Pre-approved time off: 1 request
• Orientation hours: 72
• Interdisciplinary support includes Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Transportation, and Unit Secretary
• Emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
