Unit Overview

Join our 6C Neuro Intermediate Care Unit, a specialized environment focused on providing high-quality care to patients with neurological and medical needs. This unit supports an average daily census of 24 patients, with a team-oriented approach to patient treatment.

Position Details

  • Profession: Registered Nurse
  • Specialty: Intermediate Care (IMC)
  • Shift: Night shift, 4x12-Hour (18:45 - 07:15)
  • Float Requirement: Yes, to other intermediate areas and critical care
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend, with a maximum of 3 weekend shifts every six weeks
  • Orientation: 32 hours total, including 8 hours of computer training and two shifts on the unit

Experience & Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Neuro Experience: Experience in Neuro nursing is preferred. Candidates with limited experience should be noted
  • Charting System: Proficiency in Epic required
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS and BLS required
    • CPI, NIHSS preferred

Required Skills

  • Neuro and Cardiovascular Care:
    • Care for patients with CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident)
    • Management of Lumbar drains and post-neurosurgery care
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Gastrointestinal Care: Feeding tube care and management
  • IV Therapy:
    • Blood product administration
    • Central and peripheral line care
  • Medications:
    • Heparin and insulin protocols
    • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Respiratory Skills: Management of ventilated patients and non-invasive airway management
  • Professional Topics: Strong knowledge in isolation precautions and effective wound care

Unit Environment

This unit predominantly caters to patients with complex neurological conditions as well as other medical intermediate care needs. As part of your role, you will collaborate with various interdisciplinary support teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and Pharmacy.

Team Dynamics

We emphasize a teamwork approach and uphold high professional standards in all interactions with patients and staff. Compliance with the call-off policy is strictly enforced. RTO requests after booking are not permitted, and any alterations must be coordinated before arrival on the unit.

Interview Process

Candidates are required to pass an EKG test prior to starting. Please provide availability for interviews during the next 72 hours when submitting your application.

Dress Code

Scrubs must be in navy blue and/or white combinations.
