Position: Critical Care Float Pool RN

Shift: Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)

Job Summary

Join our Critical Care Float Pool for weekend night shifts with flexibility to meet unit needs as they arise. The role requires nurses to float to various Intensive Care Units (ICUs) based on staffing requirements and patient acuity.

Key Responsibilities

• Float to the following ICUs as needed:
  • Neuro ICU
  • Surgical ICUs
  • Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
  • Cardiology/Diagnostics
  • CVICU
  • SICU / MICU / NCCU
• Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients.
• Manage a variety of patient diagnoses and care requirements in different ICU settings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical records system.
• Strong skills in IV initiation, telemetry, and ventilator management.

Patient Care Details

• Patient ratios: 1:2 during day and night shifts, weekends included.
• Daily census: Over 900 patients.
• Patient age groups: Adults.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience with accessing and managing ports, arterial line management, and blood product administration.
• Knowledge of central and PICC line care/management.
• Competency in respiratory care, including BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients.
• Ability to interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and manage ventilator support.
• Familiarity with infection prevention protocols and isolation precautions.

Special Procedures and Equipment

• Experience with transplant procedures, including kidney, liver, lung, and heart.
• Ability to work with specialized equipment such as NIHSS, temporary pacers, external ventricular drains (EVD), and various monitoring systems.

Orientation

Orientation includes a total of 36 hours to prepare for the Critical Care Float Pool role.
