Position: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)

Shift Details:

• 36-hour guarantee with the possibility of a 48-hour guarantee.
• Rotating weekends are required.

Job Summary

The Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) performs evaluations and administers respiratory care treatments in accordance with physician orders and established protocols. The CRT also educates patients with cardiopulmonary disabilities, injuries, and diseases.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble, check for proper equipment function, identify malfunctions, and take corrective action.
• Collect and assess clinical information regarding patients' overall cardiopulmonary status.
• Conduct therapeutic procedures to ensure adequate spontaneous and artificial ventilation.
• Manage patient airways, including the care of artificial airways and the removal of bronchial pulmonary secretions.
• Evaluate and monitor patients' responses to respiratory care.
• Clearly explain care plans, therapies, and goals to patients while maintaining accurate records of communication.
• Initiate or modify respiratory care techniques as necessary, especially in emergency situations.
• Make necessary modifications to therapeutic procedures and recommend adjustments to the respiratory care plan based on patient responses.
• Perform procedures in accordance with established competency checklists and interpret results accurately.
• Adhere to infection control policies and procedures to protect patients from nosocomial infections.
• Provide care within the established scope of practice for Respiratory Therapists.
• Participate as a resource for complex respiratory care cases and procedures.
• Deliver in-service education to department staff as needed.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of CRT experience.
• Experience in adult critical care.
• Emergency department experience.
• Experience with neonatal and pediatric patients.
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR.
• Experience with diverse patient populations.
• Active Illinois Respiratory Care License.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NBRC Certification.
