Position: Registered Nurse - PCU

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team in a progressive care unit (PCU) specializing in medical oncology. This full-time position offers the chance to enhance your nursing practice while providing high-quality care to patients with solid tumors and orthopedic oncology needs.

Key Details

• Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
• Patient Ratios: 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for Med-Surg Telemetry
• Patient Age Groups: Adolescents, Adults, Pediatrics
• Daily Census: 36 patients
• Number of Beds: 36
• Float Requirement: May be required to float to other PCU or Med-Surg Oncology units

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required; backgrounds in ICU and PCU also beneficial
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS preferred
• Experience with high-acuity PCU patients is required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred

Required Skills

• IV therapy and phlebotomy
• Central and peripheral line care/management
• PICC line management and starting IVs
• Blood product administration
• Managing and interpreting dysrhythms
• Monitoring and administering chemotherapy
• Ability to manage cardiac drips (no titration)
• Chest tube management
• Non-invasive airway management and respiratory care
• Feeding tube care and management

Unit Information

This unit specializes in medical oncology and consists of 36 telemetry beds, with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care. The patient population includes individuals with solid tumors and orthopedic oncology, with a strong focus on infection prevention and fall risk minimization.

Training and Orientation

• First week: Monday to Friday dayshift orientation
• Second week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
