Position: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Oncology
Location: East and West of 15, Bone Marrow Transplant, City, State
Shift: Night Shift (3x12-Hour: 19:00 - 07:30)
Job Overview
The Registered Nurse position is focused on the care of patients in a medical-surgical oncology setting. The candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to individuals with various types of cancers and blood disorders.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
- At least 1 year of current oncology experience within the most recent 3 years.
- Experience in medical-surgical settings is required; hematology-oncology experience is strongly preferred.
Essential Responsibilities
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders.
- Monitor and interpret telemetry readings.
- Manage the care of patients receiving chemotherapy, including blood product administration and port care.
- Implement infection prevention protocols and manage patient falls.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physical therapy and social services.
Certifications Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred Certifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
Required Skills
- Proficient in IV therapy and blood product administration.
- Ability to manage central lines, PICC lines, and perform blood draws.
- Knowledge of telemetry with the ability to interpret dysrhythmias.
- Experience with rapid response situations and feeding tube management.
Unit Details
The Bone Marrow Transplant unit features a mixed acuity setting and focuses heavily on procedures including:
- Autologous Transplants: patients receive their own stem cells.
- Syngeneic Transplants: clients receive stem cells from their identical twin.
- Allogeneic Transplants: patients receive stem cells from a sibling, parent, or unrelated donor.
- CART therapy and stringent infection control practices.
Patient Population
The role will primarily involve caring for adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses including:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
- Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
- Hodgkin's Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Additional Information
This position may require floating to other medical-surgical oncology units as needed. Orientation will involve 72 hours of training.
