Overview

The NICU Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in evaluating and documenting patient assessments in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This position involves providing diagnostic and therapeutic treatments while ensuring appropriate patient and family education. The therapist is expected to identify significant changes in a patient's condition and act accordingly, ensuring the highest standards of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and document thorough evaluations and patient assessments.
• Administer diagnostic and therapeutic treatments, assisting physicians as needed.
• Provide education and support to patients and their families based on individual needs.
• Monitor and document significant changes in patient conditions, proactively communicating with caregivers.
• Conduct pain assessments and take appropriate actions as per standard procedures.
• Complete all documentation, including order entry and patient safety reports, in compliance with organizational protocols.
• Oversee the transport of infants between referral health systems while delivering high-quality critical care.
• Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of respiratory equipment.
• Perform additional duties as necessary to meet departmental needs.

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license from the relevant state board.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a specialized NICU setting is preferred.
• Recent travel experience in similar roles is advantageous.

• Shift Type: 3x12 Rotating shifts
• Holiday Coverage: Not required

Additional Notes

New graduates must obtain registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care within 12 months of the start date.
