Job Opportunity

Position: Registered Nurse, Operating Room

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse for our Operating Room department. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct interactions with respect, courtesy, and friendliness to all individuals.
  • Proactively offer assistance; if unable to help, locate someone who can.
  • Advocate for patient privacy and confidentiality while promoting awareness.
  • Maintain a clean and safe hospital environment.
  • Respond promptly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff to minimize risk and injury.
  • Comply with regulations to maintain necessary accreditation and licensure.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policies.
  • Complete all mandatory requirements and training as specified.
  • Report incidents in an effective and timely manner.
  • Engage in hand hygiene practices actively for patient contact roles.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and care plans.
  • Deliver patient care in alignment with established standards and policies.
  • Respect each patient’s individuality and foster their dignity and self-regard.
  • Provide teaching for patients and families based on learning needs and readiness.
  • Collaboratively prepare patients and families for discharge, incorporating necessary resources.
  • Delegate and supervise nursing interventions responsibly.
  • Prioritize patient care effectively, seeking help and reallocating resources as necessary.
  • Document all pertinent data and patient responses accurately and promptly.
  • Provide thorough reports on patient care to healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Encourage professional development among colleagues and participate in educational programs.
  • Identify patient safety risks and work on reducing potential healthcare errors.
  • Address ethical concerns in patient care and devise plans for resolution.
  • Administer medications and intravenous therapies safely according to physician's orders and protocols.
  • Assess and reassess patients' pain levels and evaluate pain management effectiveness.
  • Complete required documentation for medication reconciliation for physician review.
  • Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure patient safety during procedures.
  • Maintain sterile fields and ensure the proper handling of sterile supplies and instruments.
  • Verify patient identities and procedures prior to taking them to the operating room.
  • Apply aseptic practices in preparation for surgical cases.
  • Utilize body mechanics in the positioning and transferring of patients.
  • Ensure compliance with perioperative standards during surgeries.
  • Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments, notifying surgeons of results.
  • Handle and label specimens according to established policies.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Minimum Work Experience

  • Experience in Operating Room nursing is highly preferred.

Required Licenses

  • Current RN license in Massachusetts.
  • ACLS certification upon hire or must possess an active BLS card and obtain AHA ACLS within 60 days of hire.

Required Skills

  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, can-do attitude.

Shift Information

30-hour day, 3/10-hour days with a call rotation.

Holiday Coverage Required

No holidays required.

Minimum Years of Experience

Less than 1 year preferred.

Certifications/Requirements

The following certifications and requirements are preferred: ACLS, BLS, PALS, and various other nursing specialty certifications.
