Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse with a focus on Medical Surgical Oncology for a night shift role. The position involves caring for a high-acuity patient population with a variety of diagnoses ranging from solid tumors to some blood cancers. Oncology experience is preferred but not required, and we offer opportunities for professional growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a mixed acuity Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including chemotherapy (training provided).
• Monitor patients using telemetry and manage dysrhythmias.
• Perform vital procedures such as IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central line care.
• Implement infection prevention and fall prevention protocols rigorously.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience; oncology experience is preferred but not required.
• Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
• Competence in IV therapy, blood product administration, and telemetry monitoring.
• Ability to float to other Medical Surgical Telemetry units as needed.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills in the oncology field.

Schedule

This position offers a 12-hour night shift schedule with opportunities for self-scheduling requests. The first week of orientation will be Monday to Friday during the day, followed by 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor in the second week.

Work Environment

You will be working in a 48-bed unit which includes approximately 24 beds for PCU and 24 beds for MS Tele. Patient-to-nurse ratios are aimed at 1:3 for PCU patients and 1:4-5 for MS Tele patients. Pediatric patients are rare on this unit and cared for primarily by permanent staff.
