Position:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Unit:

CC96191 | 12 East and West Surgical Oncology - PCU

Shift:

Night shift - 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)

Experience Required:

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
• At least 1 year of recent specialty experience in a relevant clinical setting is required.
• Oncology experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Charting System:

Epic

Certifications:

• Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Preferred: ONS Chemo

Skills:

• Respiratory management (BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, tracheostomy care)
• Cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Proficient in IV management and chemotherapy administration
• Patient care skills related to surgical oncology and other specialized procedures

Work Settings:

• PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
• Cardiac Telemetry
• Medical-Surgical Telemetry

Patient Population:

• Adults and Geriatrics
• Diagnoses include surgical oncology (breast, thyroid, melanoma), hepatobiliary cancers, colorectal cancers, and more.

Facility & Unit Details:

The PCU unit provides care to patients requiring post-operative monitoring with a mix of PCU and medical-surgical patients. The unit aims for a staffing ratio of 1:4, but this may vary. Orientation includes 72 hours, with initial training during days and subsequent on-unit training.

Special Procedures/Unit Details:

• Chemotherapy and blood transfusions
• IV antibiotics and management of oncologic emergencies
• Monitoring of insulin and heparin drips
• Emphasis on infection prevention and fall risk management

Additional Information:

Staff are required to float to other acute care oncology units as needed. The unit emphasizes interdisciplinary support, working closely with teams for IV therapy, respiratory services, social services, and more.
