Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This role offers the opportunity to work within a high-acuity environment focusing on progressive care for oncology patients, including adolescents, adults, and some pediatric patients. Individuals with experience in oncology, ICU, or PCU settings are encouraged to apply.

Shift Details

• Day Shift: 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)
• Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a progressive care setting.
• Monitor vital signs and assess patients' health status.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Manage IV therapy, including starting and maintaining IVs and administering blood products.
• Utilize telemetry monitoring and respond to cardiac events effectively.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and families on care plans and health conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
• High acuity PCU experience is required.
• Oncology experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
• Experience with charting systems, preferably Epic.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS are preferred.

Skills Required

• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills.
• Accessing and managing ports.
• Administration and monitoring of chemotherapy.
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and manage cardiac drips.
• Experience with non-invasive airway management and respiratory care.
• Feeding tube care and management.
• Understanding of infection prevention protocols and patient safety measures.

Work Environment

• Unit Capacity: 36 beds with over 24 dedicated to PCU level of care.
• Patient Ratios: 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for MedSurg Telemetry.
• Collaboration with various support services including respiratory therapy, physical therapy, and pharmacy.

Orientation and Training

• Orientation consists of a one-week daytime session followed by 36 hours of on-unit training with a preceptor.
• Flexible scheduling options with self-scheduling requests.
• Variable weekend shifts based on unit needs.
