Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is dedicated to protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through effective diagnosis and treatment. The RN serves as an advocate in the care of individuals and families. This role encompasses responsibility and accountability for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development as per the New York State Nurse Practice Act, applicable policies, and professional nursing standards. The RN aims to foster a caring and healing environment that emphasizes patient-centered care.

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a designated group of patients, acting as the primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and their families on health promotion and disease management, utilizing available resources effectively.
• Administer medications safely and in accordance with established policies, utilizing knowledge of pharmacology.
• Participate in productivity and resource management, including staffing, time management, and supply utilization.
• Adhere to all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Engage actively in the Nursing Shared Governance Model, supporting unit councils and participating in improvement initiatives.
• Commit to ongoing professional development and complete all mandatory educational requirements.
• Incorporate nursing research and current evidence into practice to enhance care delivery.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and nursing students.
• Take on responsibilities related to Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator roles when designated.
• Participate in the Clinical Ladder Program as personal knowledge and expertise grow.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• Six (6) months to three (3) years of nursing experience (RN).

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education

Required Education

• Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing.

Preferred Education

• Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current Registered Nurse License in New York State.
• BLS Certification (from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Unit-specific requirements as noted in compliance documentation.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

• CCRN certification.
• Relevant skills certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.

Schedule Notes

Work Hours: Four (4) ten-hour shifts (Monday to Friday) from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The focus is on Cardiothoracic surgery, with responsibilities that may extend to general surgery based on volume.

Call Hours: Three to four shifts per week, extending from the end of the worked shift until the start of the next scheduled shift, with potential weekend responsibilities based on the schedule.
