Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. This position involves advocating for the care of individuals and families while ensuring compliance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act and relevant healthcare policies and standards. The RN fosters a caring and healing environment focused on patient-centered care.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a designated group of patients, serving as the primary nurse or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management, utilizing appropriate resources.
• Utilize knowledge of pharmacology to safely administer medications in accordance with hospital policies.
• Share responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing and supply management.
• Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Participate actively in the Nursing Shared Governance Model, supporting the Unit Council and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
• Engage in continuous professional development and complete all mandatory education requirements.
• Integrate nursing research and current evidence into clinical practice.
• Provide guidance and support to new employees and nursing students.
• Perform duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when designated.
• Contribute to the Clinical Ladder Program as expertise and knowledge advance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

• Six (6) months to three (3) years of nursing (RN) experience.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Excellent judgment and critical thinking abilities.
• Understanding of organizational dynamics.
• Effective planning and time management capabilities.
• Proficient problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to quality and reliability.
• Knowledge of safety and risk management practices.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting, particularly in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU).
• Experience with intensive cardiac patients is essential.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Education Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.

Certifications & Licensure:

• Current New York State Registered Nurse License is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross) is required.
• Unit-specific certification requirements will be validated prior to candidate submission.

Preferred Certifications:

• Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).
• Relevant skills certifications (such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.

Language Requirements:

• Proficiency in English: reading, writing, and speaking.

Schedule Notes:

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) with a 13-week commitment, working 12-hour night shifts (36 hours per week) and every third weekend.
