Job Description

The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver responsible for the comprehensive care of a designated group of patients for a specific timeframe. Utilizing a therapeutic approach, the nursing process, and collaboration with healthcare team members, the nurse provides high-quality care in adherence to established standards and core values.

Key Responsibilities

• Nursing Process:
  • Conduct ongoing and systematic assessments to analyze patients' physiological, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Determine appropriate nursing diagnoses based on assessment data.
  • Identify individualized expected outcomes for each patient.
  • Formulate a prioritized, goal-directed plan of care based on clinical judgments and patient needs.
  • Assess and meet patient and significant other learning needs through effective education.
• Implementation:
  • Provide care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner.
  • Document patient care activities accurately and timely within the patient record.
• Evaluation:
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by self and other healthcare team members.
  • Assess contributions of systems, environment, and instrumentation towards patient outcomes.
• Quality of Care:
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety and adhere to protocols in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge-based care and decision-making for designated patient populations.
  • Follow all relevant Medical Center, Division of Nursing, and Unit-specific policies and procedures.
  • Incorporate hourly rounding into daily practice to enhance patient care.
• Professional Performance:
  • Maintain accountability for individual professional practices and decisions.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues in patient care and unit operations.
  • Engage in ongoing education and development of nursing skills and knowledge.
  • Build effective working relationships with all healthcare team members and patients.
• Ethics:
  • Show sensitivity to patient rights and advocate for their needs ethically.
• Resource Utilization:
  • Prioritize patient care based on essential needs and available unit resources.

Work Environment

The GI Registered Nurse will work with both outpatient and inpatient populations and will participate in on-call duties as necessary, usually once a week and every sixth weekend. Flexibility in staffing patterns and collaboration with team members to manage call coverage is vital.

Qualifications

• Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
• State License Verification is mandatory.
• Prior experience or training in Endoscopy is preferred.
