Description
Position Summary
This role involves coordinating a range of nursing care procedures for residents of various ages, necessitating professional knowledge and consideration of specific resident conditions and treatment plans. The successful candidate will engage in patient and family education while offering leadership by collaborating effectively with ancillary nursing staff and other healthcare team members to uphold the standards of professional nursing practice within a long-term care setting.
Position Complexities
The nurse will make independent clinical decisions during scheduled shifts, maintaining complete accountability for all actions taken. In challenging situations requiring additional input, consultation with the appropriate manager or supervisor is expected. Candidates should be able to remain calm and make sound nursing judgments in emergencies while ensuring proper delegation and supervision of CNAs, LPNs, and Ward Clerks during shifts.
Accountabilities
- Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for residents with complex needs, utilizing appropriate infection control measures and setting care priorities based on acuity and patient preferences.
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, including cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental needs of residents, and document findings consistently with interdisciplinary input.
- Engage in patient education to enhance understanding and promote optimal health, participating in care conferences and providing resources tailored to staff, residents, and families.
- Maintain effective communication with residents and healthcare team members, providing constructive feedback and assisting in the orientation of new staff.
- Develop and document nursing care plans based on existing and potential resident problems, including progress notes in the electronic health record.
- Participate in departmental staff meetings and goal setting, and maintain applicable certifications and licenses.
- Familiarize oneself with mandatory state reporting guidelines and compliance requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned and ensure quality resident care is provided, even in routine or emergency situations.
Shift Information
This position requires working night shifts of 12 hours. Holiday coverage is also required.
Minimum Experience and Certifications
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant nursing experience.
- Current active nursing license in Alaska.
- Relevant certification in ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, and ATT is required.
