Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights Med Surg

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Current Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse
• Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience
• Healthcare Provider BLS certification
• ACLS certification preferred
• Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification required within 6 months of hire
• Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English

Job Overview:

Under limited supervision, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care, plans, directs, and evaluates comprehensive nursing care for Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) patients. The role involves effective communication with other shifts and departments to ensure continuity of care.

Essential Functions:

• Maintain confidentiality and uphold a high standard of courtesy and cooperation while interacting with co-workers, patients, and visitors.
• Incorporate the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values into daily operations.
• Ensure regular and predictable attendance to work.
• Wear appropriate attire for the position and display a nametag.
• Provide optimal nursing care by efficiently planning, organizing, and directing nursing functions while delivering direct patient care.
• Remain resourceful and calm in emergency situations.
• Communicate patient needs and problems to physicians, nurses, and other staff as necessary.
• Utilize collected data to prioritize patients’ physical, psychological, educational, and discharge needs in formulating care plans.
• Identify issues and guide personnel towards solutions.
• Foster a working environment that encourages growth and job satisfaction among colleagues.
• Administer medications and intravenous solutions accurately and consistently.
• Maintain precise and complete records and reporting standards.
• Ensure availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
• Carry out nursing interventions safely and accurately, implementing physicians’ orders and the nursing care plan.
• Evaluate patient and family responses to the care plan and modify as needed.
• Prioritize workload effectively.
• Document patient records accurately, clearly, and in a timely fashion.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Support and uphold infection control policies and procedures.
• Participate in staff orientation and training programs.
• Maintain professional patient confidentiality at all times.
• Demonstrate initiative and concern for patient welfare.
• Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and professional skills standards.
• Exhibit promptness and efficiency with minimal absences.
• Promote good rapport with nursing, medical staff, other departments, patients, and visitors.
• Work independently with limited supervision, utilizing the Nurse Practice Act and adhering to institutional policies and nursing standards.
• Be flexible to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
• Attend meetings and in-service training as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift Information:

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday from 6 PM to 6:30 AM
