Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in promoting, protecting, and optimizing patient health and abilities. Through diagnosis and treatment, the RN advocates for the care of individuals and families, ensuring an environment that fosters healing and patient-centered care. The RN is responsible for adhering to professional standards of practice and development in alignment with state regulations and institutional policies.
Job Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a designated group of patients, acting as the primary or accountable nurse as required.
- Educate patients and their families on health promotion and disease management utilizing available resources.
- Administer medications safely, applying a strong understanding of pharmacology in compliance with hospital policies.
- Contribute to productivity and effective resource utilization, including managing staffing, time, and supplies.
- Adhere to all standards of nursing practice, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies.
- Engage actively in the Nursing Shared Governance Model, participating in unit councils and initiatives for improvement.
- Pursue professional development and continue to engage in continuing education and mandatory training.
- Integrate nursing research and current evidence into daily practice.
- Support a learning environment for new employees and students.
- Perform duties associated with Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator roles as needed.
- Participate in the Clinical Ladder Program as knowledge and expertise expand.
- Fulfill other assigned duties as required.
Required Skills & Experience
- 6 months to 3 years of Registered Nurse experience.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Sound judgement and critical thinking abilities.
- Understanding of organizational structures and operations.
- Effective planning, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to quality and reliability in care delivery.
- Knowledge in safety and risk management practices.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings.
Education
- Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Certifications & Licensure
- Required: Current Registered Nurse License in New York State.
- BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
- Additional unit-specific requirements as per compliance guidelines.
- Preferred: CCRN and relevant certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or TNCC as needed for assigned unit.
Languages
- English - Read, Write, Speak
Schedule Notes
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, every third weekend.
Experience Requirement
- Experience with intensive cardiac patients, including conditions such as CHF, COPD, end-stage heart failure, cardiogenic shock, and septic shock. Familiarity with procedures like CRRT, IABP, Impella, and normothermia, along with care for stroke patients undergoing thrombectomy/TNK and ICU overflow care.
