Call Requirements

• One week of scheduled on-call approximately every 5th or 6th week.
• One hospital holiday each year, rotating yearly.
• Flexibility to switch on-call and holiday duties with supervisor approval.

Job Overview

Under the direction of a physician, the Cardiac Sonographer performs a variety of cardiac ultrasound procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to create technically diagnostic exams for interpretation by a cardiologist or radiologist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support and promote the mission and values of the organization.
• Provide high-quality, technically diagnostic exams for physician interpretation in a timely manner.
• Assist cardiologists during invasive ultrasound procedures as required.
• Maintain current state license and appropriate credentials in New Hampshire.
• Perform quality ultrasound exams on patients in the assigned area.
• Implement clinical protocols and policies.
• Review order requisitions for pertinent information and special requests.
• Assist patient reception staff with necessary patient information.
• Complete documentation on patient exams and ensure proper exam charges.
• Maintain medical supplies and required stock items in all rooms, preparing and cleaning patient exam rooms as needed.
• Prepare all equipment necessary for patient exams.
• Perform additional duties as required in line with this role.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

• Degree or certificate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education accredited sonography program required.
• Certification in cardiac ultrasound by the ARDMS or CCI within 12 months of graduation.
• Basic Life Support certification required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, providing proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above.

• Effective and professional communication with patients, visitors, families, and staff.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Candidates must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform tasks associated with this position, including a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Frequent lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds, may be required. Some stress may occur due to the high level of responsibility for quality patient care.
