Description
Position Title: Certified Respiratory Therapist
Position Purpose:
The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing safe and effective respiratory care as prescribed by physicians, focusing on specialty areas such as Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Responsibilities include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, performing patient assessments, and interpreting hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results, as well as educating and training staff and patients.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties:
- Deliver respiratory care procedures as specified in the departmental policy and procedure manual.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of all respiratory care procedures in accordance with departmental policies.
- Verify physician's orders for respiratory care.
- Communicate effectively in providing and receiving reports, updating patient information to reflect current clinical status.
- Participate in departmental in-services, meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory hospital meetings.
- Notify the Supervisor of changes in workload and patient acuity.
- Accurately enter daily services and charges given to patients into the departmental computer system.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of respiratory care instruments and equipment, performing troubleshooting as necessary.
- Perform effective airway management including bag/mask ventilation and assist with intubation procedures.
- Provide orientation and training for new employees and respiratory/nursing students.
- Conduct arterial blood gas draws.
- Initiate, maintain, and monitor ventilator patients and interpret clinical data to instigate necessary interventions.
- Complete required continuous training and education, including departmental specifics.
- Adhere to personal protective equipment protocols to safeguard against exposure to hazardous materials.
- Perform patient charge reconciliation and ensure timely payroll submissions.
- Demonstrate proficiency with all cardiopulmonary equipment relevant to the CRT role.
- Administer proper medication dosages for neonatal and pediatric patients, considering their specific needs and disease severity.
- Assess geriatric patients, utilizing the appropriate equipment and procedures for their age and medical condition.
- Conduct thorough assessments of patient respiratory status and recommend suitable therapeutic interventions.
- Provide care that is appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Engage in additional duties as assigned.

- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements pertaining to departmental, hospital, state, and federal standards.
- Follow safety protocols to provide a secure environment for patients, the public, and staff.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions with a valid driver's license).
- Eligibility to legally work in the United States.
- Clear background check.
- Pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test if applicable.
- Complete an employee health meeting.
Required Education/Licensure/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program with the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the NBRC.
- BLS certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
- NRP certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of respiratory therapy experience in a hospital
