Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Registered Nurse with experience in Medical-Surgical Oncology to join our team. This position is based in a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit, where you will provide care to patients with complex medical conditions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in oncology and a commitment to infection prevention and patient safety.

• Shift: Night shift (3x12-Hour, 19:00 - 07:30)
• Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years, with at least 1 year of current specialty experience in oncology.
• Charting System: Epic
• Orientation Hours: 72 hours
• Patient Age Groups: Adults and Geriatrics
• Daily Census: Approximately 33 patients
• Number of Rooms: 36
• Number of Beds: 36

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to patients diagnosed with various blood disorders and malignancies, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy, including blood product transfusions and central line care.
• Monitor patient telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias.
• Utilize infection prevention protocols to ensure patient safety and reduce fall risks.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Preferred Certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
• Skills:
  • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
  • IV therapy and medication administration
  • Central line and peripheral line care
  • Feeding tube management
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams

Special Unit Details

• Care for patients undergoing various types of stem cell transplants, including autologous, syngeneic, and allogeneic transplants.
• Emphasis on patient-centered care with a focus on managing complex symptoms and treatments.

Work Environment

This position involves working in an inpatient oncology setting, collaborating with various support services, such as Physical Therapy, Social Services, and Pharmacy. The unit provides a dynamic environment where quality patient care is the priority.

Scheduling and Flexibility

The successful candidate should be prepared to float to other MedSurg Oncology units as needed and may experience a variable number of weekend shifts based on unit requirements. Scheduling is self-managed within the constraints of unit needs.
