Position: Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical/Telemetry

Shift Schedule:

Night shifts, three 12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:30).

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of current experience in medical-surgical or telemetry specialty within the last 3 years.
• Patient ratio experience of 1:4-5.

Charting System:

Epic

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – required

Preferred Skills:

• IV therapy and phlebotomy
• Accessing and managing ports
• Blood product administration
• Central line care and management
• PICC line management
• Oncology experience (preferred but not required)
• Respiratory management (BiPAP/CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula)
• Feeding tube management
• Medication management including Heparin protocols
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response

Work Environment:

This role will involve floating to various Medical-Surgical units as needed, supporting a locked corrections unit for incarcerated individuals. The unit includes both oncology and non-oncology patient populations.

Daily Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with a range of medical-surgical and oncology diagnoses.
• Monitor and manage cardiac rhythms and interventions.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care.
• Implement isolation precautions and handle patient safety in a secure corrections environment.

Additional Unit Information:

• Patients may present with a variety of diagnoses, including those related to solid tumors, blood cancers, and surgical procedures.
• The daily census includes 12 patients across 12 rooms and beds.
• The unit is supported by a variety of interdisciplinary services, including pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, and social services.

Orientation:

Comprehensive orientation consisting of 72 hours will be provided.

Float Requirement:

Yes, to other Medical-Surgical units as necessary.

Weekend Shifts:

Weekend shifts are variable based on unit needs.
