Registered Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Shift Details

• 4x10 Hour Shift: 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM
• Call Required: Yes (2 weekend shifts and 2 weeknight shifts per month)

Experience Required

Minimum of 1 year of experience in a PACU setting is required.

Preferred Skills & Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Experience with Respiratory care and End-Tidal CO2 monitoring
• Care of Ventilated Patients
• Chest Tube Management
• Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
• Placement of Oral/Nasal Airways
• Pre/Post-operative Care

Clinical Responsibilities

RNs in this role will perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to the following:

• Monitor patients in Phase I and Phase II PACU
• Administer medications including antiarrhythmics and IV vasopressors
• Conduct pre-op assessments and provide education to patients
• Manage IV therapy and phlebotomy
• Perform wound care and utilize wound vacs
• Ensure adherence to protocols, including Malignant Hyperthermia and Hypoglycemia Management

Patient Care

The unit cares for a diverse patient population, encompassing:

• Adolescents
• Adults
• Pediatrics
• Geriatrics

Unit Details

• Total Beds: 27
• Patient Ratios: 1:3 for both days and nights
• Interdisciplinary Support: Includes IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and more
• Charting System: Epic
• Scrubs: Teal scrubs will be provided

Additional Information

All nursing staff are required to demonstrate competency in phlebotomy and IV placement as part of their responsibilities in the unit.
