Position Summary

The Registered Nurse position provides quality nursing care for maternal and newborn patients. This role involves collaborating with other professional staff to deliver services that embody the caring philosophy of the hospital. The OB RN will also cross-train to care for Med Surg/EICU patients as needed.

Essential Job Duties

• Complete initial nursing histories, assess patients' conditions, and develop individual plans of care for assigned patients on the unit.
• Triage patient care appropriately based on presenting or expressed symptoms.
• Administer medications accurately.
• Assess labor progression and manage induction of labor and cervical ripening.
• Handle medical emergencies, including but not limited to prolapsed cord, breech delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, precipitous delivery, uterine rupture, management of meconium, abruptio placenta, and placenta previa.
• Perform and accurately interpret fetal heart monitoring and manage pregnancy-related concerns such as hypertension and diabetes.
• Assess newborn conditions, recognizing situations that require heightened surveillance or a higher level of care.
• Conduct neonatal resuscitation within the scope of practice and certification, as well as manage neonatal sepsis.
• Monitor newborns for adverse events such as hypoglycemia, hypothermia, and jaundice, intervening appropriately.
• Promote patient education and involve families in the care of their newborns.
• Identify and communicate any changes in patient status appropriately and promptly to the provider.
• Effectively communicate with the patient’s care team.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Two-year nursing degree required; four-year nursing degree preferred.
• Must hold and maintain a Wisconsin Registered Nursing license.
• AHA BLS certification required within 1 month of hire.
• NRP certification required within 6 months of hire.
• ALSO certification required within 1 year of hire.
• STABLE certification required within 1 year of hire.
• Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification required within 1 year of hire.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Intermediate proficiency with computers is required.
• Comprehensive nursing skills and knowledge of relevant equipment.
• Thorough understanding of triage protocols.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
• Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving abilities.

Shift Information

Night Shift - 4 (12) hour shifts; every other weekend, 7 PM to 7:30 AM. Holiday coverage is required.

Minimum Experience

Less than 1 year of experience is acceptable. Certifications required include BLS/BCLS, NRP, STABLE.
