Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Registered Nurse with a specialty in Pediatric Behavioral Health to join our Child/Adolescent Psychiatric Unit. This unit provides crucial care for children and adolescents facing a range of behavioral health challenges in a supportive, acute care environment.
Shift Details
- Night Shift: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:00)
- Day Shift: 3x12-hour shifts (07:00 - 19:00)
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
Unit and Patient Care Information
The Child/Adolescent Psychiatric Unit caters to patients typically aged between 6 to 17 years old who are medically stable while experiencing acute crises. The unit consists of dual sides for children and adolescents, focusing on specific challenges such as behavioral dysregulation, suicidal ideation, and other psychiatric disorders.
Patient Diagnoses Include:
- Anxiety Disorders
- Bipolar Disorder
- Depressive Disorders
- Psychotic Disorders
- Schizophrenia-Spectrum Disorders
- Substance Use Issues
- Suicidal Behavior
- Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders
Required Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in a relevant setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience with physical hold protocols and emergency care procedures
- Competency in medication administration and blood glucose monitoring
- Familiarity with therapeutic approaches and treatment modalities such as psychoeducation
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge in seclusion protocols and procedures
- Experience with diverse age groups, including children, adolescents, and young adults
Team and Support
The unit benefits from interdisciplinary support, including social services, pharmacy, and unit secretarial assistance. The staff will collaborate closely to ensure comprehensive care for all patients.
Additional Details
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 during the day and 1:2 for night shifts across 20 beds
- Daily Census: Typically between 18-20 patients
- Orientation: 16 hours of orientation provided
- Floating: Staff may be required to float to other units as needed
