Unit Overview

Join our team in a progressive care unit (PCU) specializing in Medical Oncology. Our unit is equipped with 36 beds, with over 24 beds designated for PCU-level care. We focus on high-acuity patient management while ensuring comprehensive care for our diverse patient population.

Position Details

• Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour, from 19:00 to 07:30
• Patient Ratios:
• Days: 1:3
• Nights: 1:3
• Weekends: 1:3
• Float Requirement: Required to float to other PCU or MedSurg Oncology units as needed
• Orientation: 72 hours of orientation; includes a week of daytime orientation with a preceptor

Patient Population

Our unit caters primarily to adult patients with various diagnoses, including:

• Solid Tumors
• Orthopedic Oncology
• Thoracic Oncology

Pediatric patients are cared for rarely and would typically be managed by permanent staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and monitor chemotherapy treatments
• Manage high-acuity patients with complex needs
• Perform vital procedural skills, including central line management, blood product administration, and IV therapy
• Utilize telemetry systems for continuous patient monitoring
• Implement infection prevention and fall prevention protocols

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of high-acuity PCU experience
• Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS are preferred
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and manage rapid response situations
• Experience with arterial line management, phlebotomy, and medication titration protocols
• Proficient in managing respiratory care, including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomy care

Preferred Qualifications

• Oncology experience is strongly preferred, but not required
• Experience in telemetry, wound care, and surgical drain management
• Knowledge of IV insulin protocols and administering high-risk medications
