Position: Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Unit Information:

This role is situated in a Stepdown Unit from ICU, serving a diverse range of patient populations across multiple disciplines. The unit employs a Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model that includes a bedside Registered Nurse, a Virtual RN, and a CNA for each patient.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients across various specializations.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, including cardiac, respiratory, neuro, and renal patients.
• Administer medications, manage IV therapy, and monitor vital signs.
• Utilize telemetry monitoring systems effectively to interpret dysrhythmias and manage responses.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, rounding, education, and safety rounds as part of the virtual nursing model.

Shift Details:

• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:30)
• Guaranteed hours: Minimum of 60 hours per 2 weeks
• Weekend coverage required, which could be more frequent than every other weekend

Patient Ratios:

• Day and Night shifts: 1:4 for bedside nurses, 1:6 for CNAs

Qualifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Alaska
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a progressive care or similar nursing setting
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Experience with telemetry, cardiac monitoring, and dysrhythmia management
• Knowledge in managing respiratory therapies, including BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula
• Familiarity with central line care and management, as well as PICC line management
• Competence in wound care and the use of isolation precautions
• Experience in managing complex medical surgical patients with higher monitoring needs

• Massimo Capnography
• Safe Patient Handling Equipment

Daily Operations:

The unit operates with a daily census of 36 patients and features interdisciplinary support services, including IV teams, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy. The facility is recognized as a Magnet Facility and a Level II Trauma Center.
